On October 26, Career and Technical Institute (CTI) West Practicum Welding students competed in the Victoria College Welding Rodeo, earning a 5th place finish.

The competition challenged students to think creatively as they were provided with a fixed amount of material, along with a pile of scrap iron to utilize in their sculpture. With a time limit of only five hours to gather materials, measure, cut, tack and weld, they showcased incredible teamwork and creativity.

”Our students showcased incredible teamwork and creativity, competing against eight other teams from surrounding districts is no small feat,” said Juan David Castillo, CTI Ag Equipment Design & Fabrication Instructor. “This experience not only honed their technical skills but also reinforced the importance of collaboration and precision under pressure.”

The students worked for weeks to conceptualize their sculpture, using design strategies learned in class. Each team member’s contribution was vital, fostering a sense of pride in the final product.

The West CTI students created a “Wall-E” figure as their sculpture, with a cutout Victoria West High School logo on the front. The sculpture demonstrated their creativity and served as an homage to their school spirit.

We are #VISDProud and congratulate the students on their fantastic achievement. We look forward to their continued success in the fields of welding and metal fabrication.
