Incoming 9th graders and families are welcome as we show the community why West is Best. We will have games, free hamburgers & hotdogs, a dunk tank, water slide and so much more. West's winning Powderpuff team is gearing up to face East! The game will take place on May 12th in Memorial Stadium at 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased in room A130 between May 8th and May 12th.

On Monday, May 8, 2023, Victoria West High School will be implementing new traffic patterns for parents/guardians, student drivers, and bus transportation on campus to alleviate traffic congestion during drop-off times for the remainder of the school year. These changes are the result of a comprehensive study and analysis of traffic flow on our campus, and we believe they will improve safety, efficiency, and convenience for all our stakeholders. Following the first full week of traffic changes, parents/guardians will be sent a Thoughtexchange link to participate in to gather feedback as we continue to improve the traffic congestion during school drop-off. On April 15, five of our Shield yearbook staff members traveled to Austin and represented Victoria West at the ILPC Spring Conference on the UT Austin campus. These students gave up their Saturday and were on campus by 5:30 AM in order to attend ILPC, where they received on-site training from journalism and publication industry professionals including Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist John Moore. They brought home many valuable tips and tricks about writing, reporting, photography, marketing, and page design to share with their fellow staff members. Thank you for your hard work, girls!

This week is a dress-up week brought to you by the Senior class! Here's the schedule: Monday - Celebrity Day: Dress up as someone who inspires you! Tuesday - Comic Book Day: Become your favorite superhero or even supervillain! Wednesday - Mismatch day: Wear your wackiest combination of clothes! Thursday - Time travel day: Dress up as your favorite historical character! Friday - Anything but a backpack day: Bring your school essentials in anything but a backpack! Please make sure that all costumes are school appropriate! You may wear hats and wigs, but no spaghetti straps, house shoes, masks, or muscle shirts.

VWHS will be hosting a Yard Sale opportunity on Saturday, April 15th from 8 am to 1pm. If you would like to reserve a spot (10 x 10) to sell your goodies please contact Mrs. Reeder at teresa.reeder@visd.net or 361-788-2830. The cost per space is $30.00. All proceeds will go to students and staff of VWHS. If you are not interested in reserving a space but would still like to participate, we are also taking donations of items to sell as well. We have tables to rent for $10 each, if needed. We will have clubs, organizations and food trucks! Time for spring cleaning and one stop shop to sell your items.

Team 9121 Wild West, participated in a UIL Robotics competition in Houston last weekend and won the 2023 Rookie All Star award, the 2023 Highest Rookie Seed Award AND were the Houston District 2023 Winner.
