portrait of a graduate

Victoria ISD is asking community members to participate in building the Portrait of a Graduate for the district.

Building the Portrait of a Graduate began during the 2020-21 school year, with middle and high school student leadership groups participating in various activities throughout the school year. Student leaders told VISD Administrators what they wanted for themselves to ensure they Find Their ‘&’ after they are handed their diplomas at graduation.

Victoria ISD continued this work through the 2021-22 school year with students to develop the Portrait of a Graduate representing VISD students. Through campus and student leadership focus groups during this school year, students have participated in identifying the skills and characteristics they believe themselves and their peers need to be successful after high school.

Along with students, the district has worked with VISD teachers, administrators and staff to identify the most important characteristics students need to be successful as a learner and successful as a person. The next step is to gather more information from the community.

“Our Portrait of a Graduate work is about building our collective vision of what student success looks like for our students to be college, career and life ready,” said Melissa Corell, VISD Chief Innovation Officer.

VISD will be hosting a Portrait of a Graduate Community Event on Wednesday, April 13, at 1 p.m. Due to space limitations, VISD is asking that those interested in attending RSVP by Wednesday, April 6.
