Pre-AP Biology

Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with their environment.  In this class, we will examine biologic concepts on different levels from the molecules that make up everything to the biosphere which consists of all living things and the areas in which they live.  This class will prepare students to complete the Biology End of Course STAAR test by providing them with the experiences and knowledge to be successful on the EOC test.

Upon completion of the Biology course, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate safe and effective laboratory techniques.

  • Develop scientific thinking skills and experimental design methods.

  • Analyze the interactions of biotic and abiotic components in environments.

  • Describe the characteristics of living organisms and the use of those characteristics to classify organisms.

  • Explain how organisms maintain and regulate internal conditions necessary to sustain life.

  • Describe how similarities in DNA and other structures in all organisms can provide insight about the history of life.
