The walls of Victoria West High School are adorned with posters showcasing the next steps in the seniors’ journey: “High School Graduation AND…” This could be junior college, a university, a trade school, the military, or a career.
The idea was originally shared with staff by Principal Paul Fleener as a way to honor seniors and motivate younger students at the campus.
Parents, students, and teachers have been submitting information for seniors who have their “AND.” Art teacher Sarah Ardner then creates the poster, it is printed by Librarian Sherry Rainosek, and parents also receive a digital copy as a keepsake.
“I took interest in the project because college was how I escaped poverty. My high school speech and debate teacher was my mentor, and she helped me apply for scholarships and universities,” explained Ardner. “These seniors accomplished the impossible this year, and West is incredibly proud of them.”Senior information for a highlight poster can be submitted over the next month.
